About

A list of what's happening, kept by the people going.

Balkan Charlotte is a volunteer-run listing of Balkan events around the Charlotte area.

It started because the information was scattered — a church bulletin here, a Facebook group there, a flier taped inside a grocery store window. People kept finding out about things the week after they happened.

So this is one page with all of it: music, folklore, church and holiday celebrations, and the smaller gatherings in between. Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Montenegrin, Macedonian, Slovenian — if it's open to the community and it's happening near Charlotte, it belongs here.

Nobody is paid for this and nothing costs anything to list. Advertising from local businesses covers hosting.

How it works

01

Organizers send it in

Anyone hosting something fills in the form. Churches, folklore groups, clubs, and people throwing a coffee morning.

02

We check it by hand

Every submission is read before it goes up, usually the same evening. If something's missing we email first.

03

It goes on the list

Published on the homepage, the calendar, and the weekly email that goes out Thursday mornings.

Ways to help

This works when people send things in. It's the whole thing, really.

  • Submit events you're hosting, and events you hear about.
  • Tell us when something on the list is wrong or cancelled.
  • Point us to businesses and organizations we've missed.
